RÜCKKEHR NACH BIRKENAU
Chamber play based on the autobiography of Ginette Kolinka.
In 1944 Ginette Kolinka is deported from Avignon to Auschwitz-Birkenau together with her father, brother and nephew. Only she returns to Paris. She tells of beatings, hunger, cold and humiliation, and of a dress that Simone Veil gave her in the camp and that gave her dignity.
She only began to speak when Steven Spielberg was looking for eyewitnesses for “Schindler's List”. Today she guides school classes through Auschwitz. Through the fate of one survivor, the multimedia chamber play shows what is lost when values are lost, and is an appeal for liberal democracy.
